LETTING OTHERS DOWN
Loud n Proud is a charity. Although money is important for us to pay for the purchase/ repair of equipment and running costs. It is not a business set up to make a profit. We exist solely to create performers.
If your child does not improve due to not practicing or a low attendance rate, we will contact you and arrange a meeting to discuss our concerns. If a student is having fun playing music that is what is important but if they are in a band and their rate of improvement slows to the detriment of the group, it may cause problems with the other players. Sometimes it may be the student has progressed faster than the rest. In both these cases a band meeting will be called to discuss what the best way forward for all is.
Apart from music and performance skills we promote positive self-regard, socially responsible values, and leadership skills. This is achieved through a demanding music programme of performances and rehearsals.
We show young people how to work together towards well-defined ambitious goals, with music education and the performing arts as a medium.
We ensure that they have the knowledge and skills that is necessary to complete a long and, at many times, a demanding process to see a project through from beginning to end.
We enable them to earn the kind of success which comes only through perseverance, dedication and teamwork. It is an experience that enables them to grow into responsible and successful adults, and one that they will hopefully remember for the rest of their lives.
At the end of their time with us they will leave with far more than musical education. Beginning as a group of individuals, they complete their adventure as one; learning what it means to depend and to be depended upon. As they grow out of our organisation and mature into young adults, they will have learned the necessary transferable skills to be able to go on to be a success in their chosen career and in the community, they belong to.
It is important that you are kept informed of the development and improvement your child is making to ensure that you are getting value for money. At the same time, we must ensure that all our students are meeting our aims and objectives. Students who are not following the principles as explained in this leaflet will be expelled.
The second thing that happened at the same time was a guy whom I had met at the time Ian Appleby invited us to play at The Wickerman Festival and I accepted. I knew we had to up our game to play at it. On hearing that Loud n Proud was invited to play The Wickerman my son Jamie told me that his band would have liked to go too. I thought, why not? I suggested we make up a band with my band which was percussion, vibraphone, xylophone, marimba, and some brass with his rock band.
It soon took shape as an 18-piece band playing classic rock and off we went to the Wickerman. I called it The Rock Orchestra, and, on the day, we were due to start about 12.30. I was a bit apprehensive and thought maybe nobody will turn up. The gig got started and when people passing heard the tunes, they flocked in. The Rock Orchestra blew the place apart. We ended up getting invited back for 3 years. Come Monday morning we started the School of Rock.
Today Loud n Proud has for over 20 years been at the forefront of the development of young musicians and bands in Renfrewshire and Scotland. We have created a place for talented, hardworking young musicians and performers to thrive.
We have worked with an incredible mix of young people. Several have won National titles while most just love to make music in a safe and inspiring environment. The high number of students that have become full-time professional players, teachers, technicians, and music managers is a testament to the high-quality output of our work with young musicians.
Loud n Proud has had an amazing impact on young people’s confidence, social practice, concentration, creativity, and general outlook on life. The students have the confidence and encouragement to achieve their dreams whatever they may be!
The impact Loud n Proud have made in the local music scene since for over 20 years has been invaluable to Paisley and beyond.

Parents or Guardians
- Encourage your child to practice at home on the assignments given to them by their teacher
- Be punctual – let us know when appointments for lessons or live sessions can’t be kept.
- Remind your child that they need to let their band know when they can’t make practice.
